Background

It is an office under the Office of the President and cabinet, (OPC) created to run the affairs of the province in line with the devolution agenda. The Devolution and Decentralisation Policy elaborates on the Constitutional imperatives of bringing governance closer to communities and make it more accessible as a way of enhancing responsiveness, accountability and participatory governance over local development priorities.

The Province is located on the southern part of the country sharing boundaries with Botswana and South Africa. It poses as a gateway and corridor to most SADC economies and boasts of the busiest inland port of entry in Sub-Saharan Africa handling large volumes of traffic. The Province has a population of 683 893 people and a total area of 54 172 km2 . The province has 7 administrative districts with Gwanda as its capital.
